A new era at the Warriors is officially underway with the club announcing that forwards Mitch Barnett and James Fisher-Harris will co-captain the side in 2025.

In addition to the retirement of Warriors great Shaun Johnson at the end of last season, incumbent captain Tohu Harris was last month forced to retire from rugby league immediately citing a debilitating wrist injury.
That left two big leadership voids at the club which will now be filled by Barnett and Fisher-Harris.
Barnett enjoyed a career year in 2024, earning a maiden Blues jersey while one of the game’s best props in Fisher-Harris joined the Warriors this off-season following four straight premierships in Penrith.
Fisher-Harris is also one of New Zealand’s most decorated Test players, representing his country on 17 times, and captaining the Kiwis to win the inaugural Pacific Championships in 2023.

“They’re terrific examples of what leadership is about, both commanding respect from all
around them through their actions above all,” said Warriors CEO Cameron George via a club-issued statement.
“Rather than having one captain, we felt Mitch and James have so much to offer as co-
captains. It was a no-brainer given their qualities.”
Barnett and Fisher-Harris detailed how they found out the news from coach Andrew Webster.
“I went around to Webby’s house for a coffee and he dropped it (the
co-captaincy) on me,” Barnett said.
“I was obviously excited. It was a great opportunity for me, for Fish and for my family.”
“It’s been a hectic last month or so for me getting used to the new surroundings,” said
Fisher-Harris.
“When Webby gave me the news I was stoked. I want to give back. That’s why I came
back but being co-captain is really special.”
