Daicos has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his foot and has been on a modified training program in recent times.
The 22-year-old star earned his second All-Australian blazer last year, quickly developing into one of the competition’s biggest stars.
“I had a bit of a foot flare up, but the club’s managed it really well and we’re slowly building up as we have a bit of time on our side. I’m trying to rush them and get back into a bit of match play and everything, but they’ve managed it really well and I’m feeling confident with it,” Daicos told AFL Media’s Cal Twomey this week.
Daicos, who played every game last year, said he was “feeling good” despite the setback.
“I’ve been excited to build my running back up again and feeling a little bit unfit and blowing a little bit, but it’s good to get back into it and I’m sure that will come back quickly. The main thing is my body is feeling good so I’m excited,” he said.
POWER FORWARD ON TRACK
Port Adelaide forward Sam Powell-Pepper is tracking well in his recovery from an ACL injury and plans to get involved in contact training again next week.
The tough customer suffered the injury in round six last year and did not feature again in 2024.
“It’s been close to ten months now,” he told reporters on Thursday.
“It was just countless hours in the gym, on the bike, and not being able to get out there and just do a basic warm-up.
“I’m definitely grateful for everything now, even just basically warming up… not being a part of it is just something that I’ve missed quite a bit.”
Powell-Pepper is targeting a return in Port Adelaide’s trial game against Adelaide on February 21 and will likely be a key cog in Ken Hinkley’s forward set-up given his leadership, defensive hustle and nous around goals.
Alongside new recruits Jack Lukosius and Joe Richards, plus draftee Joe Berry, Port Adelaide’s forward line looks set to look a little bit different in 2025.
