Port star Jason Horne-Francis says don’t write off the Power in 2025, despite confirmation this year will be Ken Hinkley’s last as coach before he hands the reins to assistant Josh Carr.

After news of the succession plan broke last week, footy commentator Kane Cornes said that deal “automatically rules Port Adelaide out” of the premiership race.
But speaking after his starring three-goal heroics in the Indigenous All Stars win over Fremantle in Perth, Horne-Francis remains confident the Power can reach a fifth finals campaign in six seasons.
“I think we’ve got such a talented group, and with the experience there as well I think we can do anything,” he told foxfooty.com.au.
“Each and every day we keep working.
“We know what we can do as a footy team and our strength.”
Hinkley has become a mentor for Horne-Francis after the homesick number one draft pick was traded back to South Australia from North Melbourne.
While the now 21-year-old Horne-Francis said it was “sad” to have one final year with Hinkley, he felt the club was in safe hands with Carr.
“He’s been such a good role model for the club, such a good coach, such a good father figure for all of us boys. I’ve only been there for three years now but the connection we have together is special,” he said.
“I’m sure it will continue on outside of footy.
“I think a lot of us boys have a special connection with Carry as well and what he brings to the footy club. I’m sure he’ll be that same father figure as what Kenny is as well.”
Horne-Francis was a stand out in the Indigenous All Stars clash as he racked up 17 disposals, seven inside 50s, six tackles and four clearances.
But it’s his effort to finish off his work that will please Port fans most, as he nailed three goals.
“It’s definitely good to hit the scoreboard whenever you can – it’s one of the things I’ve been working on, rewarding myself when I get down there,” he said.
“Sometimes I might get caught down forward because I’m too tired – I need to build my tank up a little bit more.
“I just want to showcase my weapons wherever I can.
“I’m definitely still learning every day about my craft – especially in the middle.”
And the Port star says he hopes the All Stars format will continue after a “fun week” in Perth.
“There was just so much excitement within the group, to go out and play with all of us brothers,” he said.
“I’m spewing we don’t have anymore games – hoping we can keep this going every year.
“It’s been a fun week – I’m sure I’ll cherish it for the rest of my life.
“It’s hard to describe, when you put all of us brothers in the room we find a way just to have some fun.
“It’s a special thing.”
Port Adelaide’s first official pre-season match will be held on Saturday March 1 against St Kilda.
