Having had Accor Stadium at Sydney’s Olympic Park as their home ground for nearly 20 years, South Sydney CEO Blake Solly says the club is interested in heading east to Moore Park’s Allianz Stadium.

That is if the NSW Government don’t splash some cash on their current home base.

“We’ve been pretty consistent now for a long period of time that we want to stay at Accor provided the government and Venues NSW deliver on their commitment to invest into Accor,” Solly said on SEN radio.

“If they’re not going to invest in Accor, we’d like to move to Allianz where the government has invested a billion dollars into creating a fan experience that is fantastic.”

Solly went onto say that the club wants some stability with their next stadium deal.

“We’ll be patient. We’re working with Venues NSW, we’re listening to the government, but at some stage they’re going to have to make a decision on the future of Accor and hopefully when they do that, they’ll make a decision on our future,” he said.

“We’d like our next deal with Venues NSW and the government to be a 25-year deal not a 5 or 10 or 15-year deal.

“It’s a great stadium but it’s getting up to 30 years old now.

“It just needs a really strong renovation and refurbishment program to make sure it keeps pace with all the other stadiums that our fans and members go to.”

If the Rabbitohs end up moving to Allianz, they would be sharing a stadium with fierce rivals the Sydney Roosters, who are the sole NRL tenant at the flashy Moore Park venue which sits right next door to the Sydney Cricket Ground.
