Mailata Sings Iconic Anthem, Touches Fans at Eagles Super Bowl Parade

Eagles celebrate Super Bowl in Philly | 00:31

Australian Jordan Mailata has celebrated his team’s Super Bowl success with an iconic rendition of Queen’s We Are the Champions on Saturday (AEDT).

Five days on from demolishing the Kansas City Chiefs, Australia’s first player to play in and win a Super Bowl wowed a rowdy Philadelphia crowd to cap off the Eagles’ victory parade.

“I’m not one for speeches but I know how to sing,” Mailata said before launching into a powerful performance of the Queen hit.

“I’m going to need some help. I want to sing a song that everyone here should know – it kind of sounds like this.”

Later the Aussie on an open-top parade bus whipped his rig out as he celebrated with loyal Eagles fans chanting his name.

“This is amazing. I love our fans, I love our city, I love what they’re about,” Mailata said.

Many Philadelphia fans camped out along the team’s parade route overnight, huddling under blankets and inside tents to have a prime position.

While others kitted out in Eagles jerseys climbed trees, ladders and even a statue of Benjamin Franklin near City Hall to get a glance of their NFL heroes.

But it was Mailata’s pitch-perfect execution of the iconic celebratory song that stole the show.

However, the fact he has an incredible voice isn’t a surprise to anyone who knows Mailata well.

The 27-year-old was a hugely popular contestant on The Masked Singer US two years ago.

Mailata performed as ‘Thingamabob’, belting out Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi, before being unmasked after showing his range singing out Ed Sheeran’s hit Perfect.

“Man, I’ve been singing all my life,” Mailata said after being unmasked.

“I was a singer before I was any sort of athlete. I played Rugby in Australia and I decided four years ago to try and take a dip in the other side of the water in the NFL and it ended up paying off.

“If you want to do something, just do it. Have fun doing it as well.”

Mailata also made one fan’s day at the parade by giving the young boy his Super Bowl hat.
