New Broncos coach Michael Maguire has fired an ominous warning shot to the rest of the NRL, believing star fullback Reece Walsh will take his game to another level in 2025.

Walsh had a down 2024, with injuries keeping him on the sideline for half the year.
However, Maguire is expecting a huge bounce back season for Walsh, calling the fullback the club’s ‘Ferrari’ in a wide-ranging interview with Code Sports.
“I’m loving working with Reece. He is a special talent, but what I like is that he has the work ethic to get better.
“He’s our Ferrari.
“He is a huge footy head. I reckon he watches more footy than anyone else here, so I like the fact I can have lengthy discussions with him and I’d like to think he is learning a lot at the moment too.
“Reece had a tough year last year but I am confident he will bounce back.”
According to Code Sports, Walsh led out the team in fitness drills during a pre-season training session on Friday.
It’s a stark turnaround from the start of pre-season, where Walsh was reportedly off his usual pace.
“There’s no doubt Reece is very talented and wants to be one of the greats of the game. To do that, you have to turn up consistently over periods of time, year after year, whether it’s Reece or whoever,” Maguire said.
“I’ve found that Reece genuinely loves the game. He could talk football all day. He wants to get better.
“I think he can take his footy to another level. It’s exciting from my point of view where I feel we can take his game.”
Maguire has long been a fan of Walsh.
In a shock reveal, Maguire, who coached the New Zealand national side from 2018 to 2023, said to Code Sports that he had attempted to get Walsh to represent NZ.
Walsh was eligible to play for New Zealand due to his mother’s heritage but chose to represent Queensland instead.
“I actually tried to get him to play for the Kiwis, but I think he wanted to go through the Origin pathway and potentially play for Australia,” Maguire said.
