Eagles Launch Inquiry After AFL Star's Street Fight Video Surfaces

West Coast Eagles forward Liam Ryan is under investigation following an alleged physical altercation caught on video, with the club on Friday announcing it has involved the AFL Integrity Unit.

According to an initial report from Seven’s Mitch Cleary, ‘phone vision’ was uncovered on Thursday displaying what looks to be Ryan fighting another male.

The Eagles released a statement on Friday afternoon addressing the incident.

“The West Coast Eagles are aware of an incident involving AFL player Liam Ryan in Fremantle on Wednesday evening,” it reads.

“The Club has advised the AFL Integrity Unit.

“Liam and his partner Evana are safe, and Liam will continue with pre-season training on Friday morning.

“The Club is working to gather all the information, will support Liam throughout this process and will make no further comment at this time.”

The revelation comes after Ryan helped unveil the Indigenous All Stars’ guernsey, to be worn when the side faces Fremantle in an exhibition match on Saturday, 15 February at Optus Stadium.

In January 2024, Ryan and the Eagles came together on a contract extension to take the 28-year-old’s commitment to the end of 2026.

The incident is the second for the Eagles in the off-season after Reuben Ginbey was arrested and charged by WA police after he was allegedly caught urinating in public, also at a music festival.

Police alleged the 20-year-old Eagles Emerging Talent winner also failed to comply with directions to give his personal details and he’s now due before the courts.

Richmond also suspended gun defender Noah Balta for the first four games of the 2025 season after he was charged with assault over an alleged late-night incident near the Victoria-New South Wales border.
