The Brisbane Broncos have responded to reports that they were planning a takeover of their UK namesake.

Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy says they aren’t interested in purchasing the up for sale London Broncos despite reports to the contrary in the English media overnight.
“Brisbane are understood to have offered a significant investment as part of a rescue package brokered by Gary Hetherington, chief executive of Leeds Rhinos,” a report in British newspaper The Sun read.
On Tuesday, Donaghy and Broncos chairman Karl Morris rejected those claims as per Code Sports.
“I’m aware of interest from English clubs seeking investment from their Australian counterparts but to be clear, ownership of a UK club is not something the Brisbane Broncos are considering right now,” Donaghy said while Morris stated “it’s the first I’ve heard of it”.
“I understand there are people (linked to the Super League) in Australia… There is zero interest from us in an international football franchise,” Morris continued.
The Broncos have previously owned the London-based club in the 90s and changing the name from the Crusaders to the Broncos before selling it after just three years.
The London Broncos are struggling mightily having been relegated to the second grade Championship after a wooden spoon finish in the Super League in 2024.
That forced owner David Hughes to put the club up for sell, sparking fears of its possible demise, but it appears the Brisbane-based Broncos won’t be saving the day.
The NRL have previously held talks in purchasing a stake in the Super League competition in attempt to reinforce the game overseas.
