Brandon Manning Defeated in Fight After Racial Slur Toward Imama

A Canadian ice hockey player has taken some on-ice punishment – adding to his off-ice penalties – after using a racial slur against a rival.

Bakersfield Condors defenceman Brandon Manning was suspended for five games for a slur aimed at Ontario Reign forward Bokondji Imama last month.

“What happened is unfortunate for everyone. No matter how intense or heated a game gets, there is no room for this in our game and no excuse,” Imama said.

But the two then met on the ice for the first time in an AHL game and immediately began fighting.

Imama landed several large punches after throwing off his gloves and then threw Manning onto the ice, with referees having to pull him off the top of Manning.

Manning apologised after his use of the racial slur.

“Last night I made comments to an opposing player that were stupid and offensive,” he said via the Condors.

“After the game I spoke with the opposing player in person, which I’m very grateful for. He allowed me to apologise and I took full responsibility for what I said.”
