The Blues on Tuesday confirmed 25-year-old Cerra, whose initial contract was due to expire at the end of this season, had re-signed with the club for a further five years, tying him to Carlton until at least the end of the 2030 season.
Taken by Fremantle with Pick 5 in the 2017 draft, Cerra was traded from the Dockers to the Blues — in exchange for Pick 6 and a future third-rounder — after the 2021 season.
He produced enjoyed a career-best season in 2023, playing in 22 of Carlton’s 26 games and averaging 25.5 disposals, 5.1 inside 50s and 4.5 clearances.
Cerra, however, endured an injury-interrupted 2024 campaign, playing just 13 games as he was plagued by soft tissue issues. At one stage, he’d suffered five hamstring setbacks in a 12-month run.
But Carlton list boss Nick Austin said the club’s long-term agreement with Cerra was a significant declaration of faith from both parties.
“Adam has had an impact in our side since his arrival at the football club, and for him to commit his future long-term at IKON Park is a show of faith, not only with us towards Adam, but also his faith in the club and his teammates,” Austin said.
“He’s a much-loved, highly respected figure in the playing group, both for what he does on game day and also what he does during the week. He’s dedicated to getting the very best out of himself with the way he prepares and he sets the standard for many.
“He was one of our most consistent players throughout the 2023 season and at just 25, we think he’s still got levels to add to his game. He’s struck up a great relationship with the playing group and his leadership gets better every year.
“Adam has all the qualities we value in a Carlton person, and we know our members and supporters are going to enjoy seeing him continue to grow at our club for a long time to come.”
Carlton earlier on Tuesday announced All-Australian defender Adam Saad had extended his contract by one season, tying him to the Blues until at least 2026.
The Blues this year will be hoping at some stage to lock away gun ruck Tom De Koning, who looms as one of the biggest contract stories of 2025.
