Wild Moments as ‘Doink’ Ends 19-Year NFL Playoff Drought Star’s Strange Mid-Game Antics Add to the Drama

Bucs in shock as FG ‘doinks’ in off post | 01:07

Washington scored a walk-off Wild Card win over the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay thanks to a fortunate doinked field goal.

Earlier, Philadelphia Eagles star A.J Brown has been captured on cameras casually reading a book on the sideline during his team’s NFL Wild Card Round win over Green Bay.

Despite doinking the right upright on the way up, Commanders kicker Zane Gonzalez connected on a 37-yard field goal to secure Washington’s first playoff win since 2005.

The 23-20 win is the franchise’s first in the playoffs in 6,945 days, with the Commanders setting up an NFC divisional-round matchup with the one-seed Detroit Lions at Ford Field next Sunday morning (AEDT).

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ dream season lives on, with the Louisiana State product throwing for 268 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for a fate-sealing first down late in the piece.

Within the 10-play, 51-yard game-winning drive, Daniels converted on 3rd & 6 from Washington’s own 34-yard line, connecting with Dyami Brown for 21 yards before an 18-yard connection with Austin Ekeler on 2nd & 10 from the Tampa Bay 45.

Then, on 3rd & 2 from the Bucs’ 19, Daniels ran for four yards to ensure they would wind the clock all the way down.

EAGLES EDGE PACKERS AMID STAR’S BIZARRE MOMENT

The Eagles forced four Packers turnovers, including a controversial fumble on the opening kickoff, en route to the 22-10 win to keep their season alive.

The bizarre moment involving Brown was captured in the second half following an Eagles offensive drive.

Brown was well held by the Packers defence, only catching one pass for ten yards.

The polarising wide receiver has been known to let his emotions spill over on the sideline in previous games, especially when the Eagles are losing or if he hasn’t produced the statistical output he would have liked.

Brown’s diva antics have even soured the relationship between him and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts at times this season.

So, when the camera panned to Brown after another drive without a catch, many tuning in might have expected to see a disgruntled Brown.

Instead, Brown pulled out a self-help book and started to read in the midst of the Eagles’ most important game of the season.

The Eagles had the ascendency early, streaking out to a 10-0 lead.

That lead extended to 16-3 after tight end Dallas Goedert made a rampaging run up the left sideline into the endzone.

A Josh Jacobs touchdown run cut the margin to six at the start of the fourth, but the Eagles held their nerve in the final quarter, kicking two field goals to ice the game.

BILLS ROUT BRONCOS TO SET UP MOUTH-WATERING CLASH

The Buffalo Bills have set up a mouth-watering divisional round clash with the Baltimore Ravens after a 31-7 thrashing of the Denver Broncos in Week 1 of the NFL playoffs.

The Bills were heavily favoured to win at home against the seventh seed Broncos, but there were some nervous early moments, with Denver scoring the first touchdown of the game to go up 7-0.

That was just the spark the Bills needed as from thereon, it was all Buffalo.

On the back of a dominant run game against a vaunted Broncos defence, the Bills scored 31 unanswered points

Running back James Cook set the tone in the first quarter with several bruising runs, finishing with 120 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Josh Allen was outstanding, throwing for 272 yards, two touchdowns and rushing for an additional 46 yards.

The play that decided the contest occurred late in the third quarter with the game very much in the balance

Leading 13-7, Buffalo went for it on 4th-and-1 at the Broncos’ 24-yard line instead of taking a field goal to make it a two-score game.

It turned out to be the right call… although it almost wasn’t.

Allen looked in trouble when rolling out to his right before throwing a heave downfield with three Denver defenders right in his face.

Somehow, the ball was trackeed by second-string running back Ty Johnson, who made an outstanding touchdown catch while flirting with the back of the endzone.

Johnson managed to just keep his feet inbounds and maintain possession to give the Bills an unassaiable 21-7 lead.

If any team has a mental advantage ahead of next week’s divisional round game between the Ravens and Bills, it’s the Ravens.

Baltimore walloped Buffalo when the two sides met in the regular season.

The match also pits the two leading chances for this season’s MVP award against each other – quarterbacks Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.

The Kansas City Chiefs will play host to the Houston Texans in the AFC’s other divisional round playoff.
