Port Adelaide has been dealt a cruel pre-season blow, with key forward Todd Marshall set to miss an ‘extended period’ due to a ruptured Achilles.

The club confirmed the unfortunate news on Monday after learning of scan results, following the Power’s training session.

“We are shattered for Todd,” Port Adelaide Head of Medical Services Tim O’Leary said in a club statement.

“We will put plenty of support behind Todd and we know he will approach his rehab with the same positive attitude and resilience that he has shown throughout his career.”

The 116-game 26-year-old has played at least 19 senior games in each of the last four seasons.

Marshall, contracted at Alberton to the end of 2029, has also battled bouts of concussion in recent seasons but remains an integral part of the side’s long-term plans.

Following the retirement of stalwart Charlie Dixon at the end of last season, Port Adelaide selected key forward Jack Whitlock with Pick 33 at last November’s draft.
