In late December of last year, Shattock was left fighting for his life after being crushed under an excavator he was driving, with emergency services requiring a hydraulic rescue tool to save him.

He was placed in an induced coma as a result of his severe injuries and spent more than three weeks in intensive care.

Fortunately, after multiple subsequent surgeries, the 44-year-old’s family has since provided a relieving update on his condition.

“We are pleased to share that Aaron is progressing well following his accident,” the Shattock family statement reads.

“After 25 days in ICU, Aaron has been transferred to the ward where he will continue his road to recovery.

“Once again, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for the incredible care, kindness, and encouragement shown during this challenging time.

“Your support has meant so much to Aaron and our family.

“We kindly ask that you respect Aaron’s need for time and space as he focuses on his recovery.”

Shattock, drafted out of Woodville-West Torrens in 1998, played 68 career AFL games for Brisbane and Port Adelaide, including the Lions’ 2002 flag triumph.

He had been playing local footy for Labrador in the Queensland Australian Football League.
