Prayers for Tonga
January 25, 2022
The undersea volcano Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai erupted on Saturday the 15th of January. The eruption could be felt from countries as far away as Alaska and the smoke cloud was visible from space.
The good news is that the immediate loss of life has been minimal with three recorded deaths. We will continue to fervently pray for the deceased’s families and communities.
However, in bad news, the eruption triggered a tsunami and has devastated Tonga and other Island Nations. Many communities have been left with nothing, food and water is scarce and the humanitarian crisis in Tonga is growing.
I thank Family Voice State Director Greg Bondar for hosting a prayer night for Tonga last Thursday. Greg was joined by Rev Mata Havea Hiliau, Rev Viniana Ravetali and myself who led the prayers.
As Christians, we are called upon to help those in need. Our brothers and sisters in Tonga need our help. I urge members, supporters and friends of the Christian Democratic Party to support the Uniting World Tonga Tsunami Disaster Appeal. This appeal partners directly with the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga who distribute aid on the ground to those who so desperately need it.
Please help the good people of Tonga by providing emergency assistance and supplies. You can do so by clicking the appeal link below:
Prayers would be most welcome as well.
Yours faithfully,
Rev Hon Fred Nile MLC
