Religion ‘Soliciting’ children in state school?

The Christian Democratic Party has condemned the short-sighted decision of a Queensland school principal to suspend religion classes from his school.

Wayne Solomon, the Christian Democrat’s Lead Senate Candidate in Queensland, said the decision made last week by Windsor State School Principal Matthew Keong to abandon religious teachings sent incorrect messages to school students.

Mr Keong last week wrote to students’ parents detailing his intention to curtail religious studies at Windsor State School and singled out his disapproval for the religious syllabus that had been used at the school.

The case has prompted Education Queensland to launch a review and Mr Solomon called on State Education Minister Kate Jones to reject the proposal put forward by Mr Keong.

“It appears the Queensland Labor party’s policies on education are a carbon copy of Bill Shorten’s policies.” Mr Solomon said.

“This is the same Queensland Labor Party that refuses to supply details of the schools implementing the Safe Schools system and the same Labor Party that is intent on sabotaging generations of great work done by our predecessors in teaching our children what is right and what is wrong.”

“I call on State Education Minister Kate Jones to stand up and instruct Mr Keong to reverse his decision.”

Based on the Gold Coast, Mr Solomon, is entering his first foray into politics but brings with him a professional background that was built on hard work.

“I am a happily married man celebrating 20 years of marriage this year and a proud stepfather to two sons,” Mr Solomon said.

“As such I stand for Christian values, a strong belief in the sanctity of marriage. I stand for equal pay for all doing the same work and responsibility.

“Furthermore, I believe schools are there to educate our children for the best start in their working and family lives.

“The Safe Schools Program, which claims to be anti-bullying is a disgrace and it needs to be stopped and the $8M that is being wasted on it re-directed to better educating our children.”
